Mark Gagarin has been sober for 8 years after battling a 12 year drug and alcohol addiction in his formative years. He is the creator of the Battle Tested podcast, which shares inspiring stories of people who have walked through life’s toughest challenges. The pain and experience of a dark past has now become useful in changing the lives of others. Mark is the Assistant Director of Hope2Gether Foundation, a non-profit in San Diego, CA that provides resources and education for the community to reduce and prevent prescription drug, heroin and other drug addiction, overdoses and deaths. Mark co-founded Awaken Recovery, a Spirit-filled, Christ-centered addiction recovery program through Awaken Church in San Diego, CA. Most importantly, he is a husband to his beautiful wife Kimmie and a father to little Sebastian.

About 570,000 people die annually due to drug use. That breaks down to about 440,000 from disease related to tobacco, 85,000 due to alcohol, 20,000 due to illicit (illegal) drugs, and 20,000+ due to prescription drug abuse.
In general, drug overdose deaths have been on the rise for the past two decades, but the number of deaths from heroin use is up by 39%.
Hope2Gether organizes educational efforts providing prescription pill, heroin, drug and alcohol education and awareness in schools and our community.
Addiction can strike at any time resulting in tragic consequences for individuals and families. Hope2Gether’s message of awareness and education will empower young adults and others to make positive choices in their daily lives.
